LICENSE RENEWAL/CONTINUING EDUCATION

HOW DO I FIND OUT HOW MANY CE HOURS I HAVE?

If you have taken your CE courses through Illinois REALTORS®, you may go to the IR website and enter your license number to search for your continuing eduation credits.  You will be able to look up your record of IR-sponsored courses only. If you need information regarding classes taken at other state-approved schools, you will need to contact the school directly for your records.

I JUST GOT MY LICENSE.  DO I NEED CONTINUING EDUCATION, AND WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS?

• Brokers who were licensed before November 1, 2021, are required to take 12-Hours of CE consisting of a 4-hour Core course and 8 hours of elective courses, of which one hour may be the Sexual Harassment Prevention Training course.  If your Broker license was first issued between November 1, 2021, and October 31, 2023, you are required to complete 45-hours of Post License Education.  Note that the Post License Education includes the required 1-hour of Sexual Harassment Prevention Training.
• Brokers licensed after November 1, 2023 do not need to renew in 2024.  Your Broker license renewal deadline is April 30, 2026 and you are required to complete 45 hours of Post License Education by the license renewal date.
• Managing Brokers who were licensed prior to February 1, 2023, are required to take 24 hours of continuing education which includes 12-Hours of Broker Management CE course, 4 hours of Core CE, and 8 hours of elective CE that includes 1-hour of Sexual Harassment Prevention Training.  Managing Brokers who are licensed between February 1, 2023 and January 31, 2025, must complete 12 hours of continuing education which includes 4 hours of Core CE and 8 hours of elective CE that includes 1-hour of Sexual Harassment Prevention Training.
• Managing Brokers licensed after February 1, 2025 do not need to renew in 2025.  Your managing broker license renewal deadline is April 30, 2027.

IF MY LICENSE IS IN A HOLDING COMPANY, DO I STILL NEED CE?

Yes.  Your “holding company” is the sponsoring brokerage keeping your license active and thus making you subject to CE requirements.

I’M A LICENSED ATTORNEY IN GOOD STANDING IN THE STATE OF ILLINOIS. WHAT DO I NEED TO DO TO RENEW AS A BROKER?

You are exempt from all continuing education but are still required to complete the renewal forms and pay the license renewal fees required by IDFPR.
